As the season of gratitude approaches, we’re reminded that giving isn’t confined to a single day, a donation drive, or a line item on a budget. True generosity — the kind that strengthens communities and enriches our lives — is a way of living.
In a recent episode of Money Isn’t Scary, our colleague Meghan Dwyer sat down with philanthropic advisor Allison Patterson to explore how our beliefs about money, abundance, and worth shape the way we give. Alison offered a refreshing perspective that feels especially meaningful this time of year:
“I truly believe we’re all generous — we just don’t always recognize it. Most people think giving only counts if it’s a big financial gift, but generosity takes so many forms. It could be how you show up for your community, the time you give, the compassion you extend. When we shift from ‘I don’t have enough’ to noticing what we do have to share, generosity becomes part of how we live — not just something we do once in a while.”
That idea — that generosity begins with awareness — resonates deeply with us at Single Point Partners. Every day, we see how financial confidence and clarity can unlock new energy for people to use their time, talents, and resources in ways that reflect their values. Giving, in this sense, isn’t a transaction; it’s an expression of purpose.
Within our team, and across the families we serve, we often talk about intentionality — in planning, decision-making, and life. Alison’s insight invites us to apply that same intentionality to generosity: to pause, notice abundance, and ask, How can I share what I already have to make someone else’s day or journey a little lighter?
As many of us gather with family and friends this over the next month, we’re grateful for the many forms of giving we witness every day — mentorship between colleagues, time volunteered in communities, advice shared freely, and care extended to clients and teammates alike. These acts of generosity strengthen the fabric of our firm and the lives we touch.
We invite you to listen to this short clip from Meghan’s conversation with Alison. You may find, as we did, that it’s a beautiful reminder that gratitude and generosity aren’t separate — they’re two sides of the same coin.
